"Mike Teal and Mike Tinsley of the Panhandle Back Country Rescue Unit pull a person across the Spokane River near the third channel dam as part of a mock rescue effort Saturday. The practice session occurred only four days after 20-year-old Janet Schindler of Spokane fell 50 feet from the exact dam down onto the rocks of the river...Amazingly, Schindler suffered only scrapes, bruises and a foot injury." "An unidentified man believed in his early 20s was rescued Tuesday afternoon after he fell some 40 feet and smashed into the precarious rock cliffs along the Spokane River downstream from the dam on the Third Channel. According to Kootenai County Paramedic John Hint, the injured man was with a team of three, all performing rappelling exercises among the rocks..." Post Falls Tribune. June 6th. 1985.
